Norman Malone was just a boy when it happened. His father was such a violent man, his mother would ask him to stay up late to protect her and his two brothers from the abusive man. But one day, 10-year-old Norman couldn’t stay up.
“I was supposed to stay awake,” Norman, now 78, recalls to CBS. “And I fell asleep.”
Then he did wake up — he and his two brothers had been beaten with a hammer. The blows left each of them partially paralyzed for life.
